What to leave out of a mid-year progress note

Mid-year checks fail when they try to rehearse the entire annual report in eight pages.

A mid-year note has one job: surface shifts that still leave time to respond. It is not a dress rehearsal for the annual pack. Cut historical essays, cut celebration pages, and keep three discussion prompts the senior team can finish in a single meeting.

Attendance often moves before attainment does. If Form 4 boys’ Chinese homework completion is slipping, say that plainly even if exam averages have not yet moved. Waiting for the public exam extract wastes the point of a mid-year check.

We keep mid-year progress checks deliberately short so deputies can circulate them without apology.
